Review: Kick sure does give a Kick!!
****
Critics may have been after Salman's life for making movies without a logic, only doing remakes of sorts and using his stardom to rake in moolah with similar looking masala films, but, one thing is to be put straight - his last flop-considered venture, Jai Ho, collected well over 100 cr which others find difficult(considered a milestone by many). So Salman's films are that way. If you look for anything other than entertainment, your intelligence is to be doubted. Kick is the same and has Blockbuster written all over it but looking for logic might be like expecting too much. Although, this film might give you a chance to shed a couple tears.
Plot:
Devi Lal Singh(Salman Khan) is an extraordinary guy who has topped all the exams he appeared in and broken all the bones that came his way. He is jobless, because he has resigned from 32 jobs for not getting a kick in them. He has beaten people, been to jail, does menacing stunts and is a raging alcoholic but 'dil ka bohot achha hai'(is very good at heart).Under unusual circumstances, Devi falls for a Psychiatrist Dr. Shaina Mehra(Jacqueline Fernandes). They abruptly separate later because, due to his Kick issues, Devi could not settle for a job while Shaina was planning to get married to him.
Now settled in Poland, Shaina dictates her short lived love story to her probable arranged match, Himanshu Tyagi(Randeep Hooda), a cop from India. He shares with her, his adventures of trying to catch a masked thief, Devil, and that he is in Poland to catch him and stop him from accomplishing an unknown mission he is out for. They don't know that the two guys they are talking about are ONE!
Now it is for you to find out, that for which Kick did Devi Lal Singh, become the super thief Devil? Is it for money or he has a greater cause? What is his mission is Poland and would he be able to pull it off? Follows a magnificent journey of twists and turns. The action scenes have neat and clean execution. The canvas of the film is quite westernized and be it the sets in India or the very beautiful locales of Poland, if you stick onto the film for one hour, you wont get off that seat.
Performances:
Salman yet again shows that his magnetic persona and charisma are yet to stay. He is a treat to just watch and moreover for a change, he has acted competently utilizing this opportunity to show variation of his expressions. Jacqueline, apart from looking better than ever before, has delivered a decent performance. She has matured as an actor for sure. Randeep Hooda is flawless and super-efficient. He delivers a noticeable performance even while starring in a 'Salman Khan film'.Nawazuddin Siddiqui is outstanding. He is mischievous, has a weird smile(No! Laugh) and a never before seen style. He will definitely steal some praise out of your mouth. Mithun Chakraborty is in top notch form. Supporting cast has done well all the way.
Music:
A piece of advice: Do not leave the theaters in the slow and dragging first 30-45 minutes. I was going to but if i did, sure would have regret it later. I have taken off a star for that drag though.
Verdict: ****
Kick is a magnificent, western looking, full entertainment film. You will blow whistles(if not others will), have the worth of your money and go back home with a smile. Its a sure shot blockbuster and will have the records rewritten. To quote hi dialogue to be literal, "Wo apni Eidee lene zaroor ayega".Here is a trailer to catch a glimpse of how the film looks:
